A strong, defined jawline equals attractive male or female. There’s no doubt that it is undesirable when facial skin gets saggy and jowls appear on the lower face.
So what can we do about this?
We have a few options.
Firstly, there is surgery. This is the original solution and for some people is a very good option. However, for most people this is too invasive, too risky, too expensive and too much downtime.
More and more people are turning to non-surgical treatments with cosmetic injectables and, in many cases, getting results equaling that of a facelift. This area of medicine is rapidly advancing as new products are launched and new techniques are developed and shared.
As we age, the cheeks, jaw and chin change shape. Fat and underlying bone in the face is lost and sagging jowls appear. In some people, a pocket of fat under the chin can be present, even in thinner individuals.
In the past, the lower face and jawline have been difficult areas to treat with success. However, excellent results can now be achieved using a combination of dermal fillers and fat dissolving injections.
If a double chin is present, this must be treated first. We now have a TGA approved product that can be used to permanently remove fat cells from this fatty pocket under the chin. Two or more treatments are needed depending on the amount of fat present. Each treatment removes a little more fat. It is ideal to leave about six weeks between treatments to allow for initial swelling to settle and optimal amounts of fat to be removed.
The next step involves using dermal fillers to define the jawline and chin and reduce the jowls. Filler is injected into the cheek area to lift the sagging skin. Then dermal filler is injected behind the jowl area along the jawline to give definition and around the chin to restore balance. Results are immediate at this stage, but do improve over the next few weeks.
This combination treatment is indicated for both men and women and can take years off the appearance. Who doesn’t want a better jawline?
