We all want smoother skin and there are many tools we have at our disposal to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture. PRP therapy is one of the tools we use at Shine.

WHAT IS PRP?

A PRP treatment is a rejuvenating procedure that can be used on virtually any part of the body. PRP is short for platelet rich plasma and this is the part of the blood that has a high number of platelets after a sample has been spun down and separated in a centrifuge. This part of the blood is high in growth factors resulting in increased collagen production when injected into the skin. We have been using PRP for cosmetic use in Australia since 2006 and at Shine since 2008. PRP has been used in other medical fields for much longer eg. with orthopaedics and plastic surgery to facilitate wound healing.

WHY CHOOSE A PRP PROCEDURE?

PRP therapy is about using your own blood to rejuvenate the skin. There are no foreign
substances injected and therefore is extremely safe with no serious side effects. Areas that are commonly treated include:
• The face generally, but particularly the fine wrinkles around the eyes
• Neck
• Décolletage
• Back of hands

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN A PRP PROCEDURE?

At Shine, we apply the PRP treatment with a Dermastamp. This is a needling device containing a reservoir that can deliver the PRP solution, along with hyaluronic acid, to the skin. Skin needling alone will stimulate collagen. Combined with PRP, there is an even greater effect.

The first step in a PRP treatment is to take a blood sample. This is then spun down in a centrifuge. A light microdermabrasion prepares the skin and topical anaesthetic cream is applied. The PRP solution is prepared. When treating the eye area, the solution is injected into the skin using a fine needle. The remainder of the face and other areas are then treated with the Dermastamp loaded with the PRP solution. Following the treatment, a soothing mask is applied.

The treated area will be pink for 24-48 hours. A mineral make up can be applied one hour after the treatment. We recommend a series of three treatments, delivered 6-8 weeks apart to give the best results. Increased collagen in the treated area will improve the overall texture of the skin with less crepiness. The collagen stimulating effects will continue for months after each treatment.

This is a treatment that can be used on all skin types. If you are interested in finding out more about PRP with Dermastamp, please ring to book an appointment for a complimentary consultation at Shine.
