Ageing has many good things it brings into our life such as wisdom and the ability to calmly make more informed choices. It also has a few things we could do without, such as acquiring in-laws we would rather not have and some added weight we can’t seem to lose no matter what we do. While we can’t do much about the first problem, we can do something about those extra kilograms we would like to get rid of. Weight loss is always difficult. To lose a few kilograms of body fat fast, consider our medically supervised prescription diet. It always works when done correctly. However, when we have lost all the weight we want to, sometimes we are still left with a few stubborn pockets of fat such as those ‘ love handles’ or that pouch around the middle.
Moving Beyond Liposuction
At one time the only way you can get rid of those pockets of unwanted fat was to undertake surgery. Although liposuction was first introduced as early as the 1920s, it had problems with gangrene that made it unpopular. But by the 1970s new methods had been devised and by the early 1980s it had gained enormously in popularity. The only problem was, you had to have surgery and that brought along it’s own risks as well as plenty of pain after surgery. But the development of using ultrasound to create a non-invasive form of liposuction was a game-changer. Now you could have all the benefits of liposuction, the removal of fat at specific areas, without the danger of surgery.
MedContour Leads the Way
Here at Shine Clinic in Brisbane we are proud to offer MedContour, a leading proponent of the new path to the quickest way to lose stubborn pockets of body fat as we age, ultrasound. This is cutting edge technology using low-frequency waves of sound to break down the fat in our bodies. This turns it into a liquid that is quickly and easily massaged towards the lymph nodes where it is reabsorbed into the body in a harmless manner. From there any toxins in the fats make their way to the liver and are flushed out of the system. This means we can literally melt the pockets of body fat away and have the body get rid of it in a natural manner, all without a single surgical cut. With this ground-breaking new treatment there is:
- Very little discomfort
- No downtime
- Results after your first treatment.
Who can have this treatment?
This is a treatment intended for otherwise healthy people who have small areas of fat they want to eliminate. It is not recommended for anyone who is grossly overweight, has a history of heart disease or vascular illness. If you have a pacemaker or any metal prostheses you should not have this treatment. It is not recommended if you are pregnant or breast feeding. If you are taking anti-coagulant medications, you are more likely to get some bruising and this treatment is not recommended.
What should I expect during treatment?
The treatment is a cumulative one, so don’t expect massive results with your first treatment. That being said, MedContour remains one of the quickest ways to lose localised body fat as we age if you don’t want to have surgery and all its complications and pain. We recommend that you do not take aspirin or any other anti-inflammatory drug for two weeks prior to the treatment.
After a consultation to discuss goals and expectations, you will begin the treatment. First, an oil is applied to the treatment area to allow smooth passage of the hand piece over the skin. The hand piece used for this treatment contains two transmitters at varying angles. They transmit low-frequency waves of ultrasound that will selectively warm up the fat cells and rupture their cell wall. This will release the liquid fatty acids into the surrounding tissue. The ultrasound hand piece also has a vacuum suction that lifts up the skin and fat so the transmitters can target specific tissue depths. This can be varied depending on the result we are seeking, for example deep fat and/or shallow cellulite.
Then the treated area is gently massaged with a second suction hand piece to direct the liquid fatty acids towards the nearest lymph nodes. The lymphatic system then directs them to the liver for final flushing out of our bodies.
We recommend returning for a short session of lymphatic drainage only 2–3 days after each full treatment. This facilitates further removal of liquified fat from the area, preparing it for the next session the following week.
The entire process takes between 30 and 60 minutes making it ideal to do during a lunch break or after work on your way home. There is no down time and you can simply go about your day once the treatment is done. There is no after-treatment recommended beyond drinking plenty of water to help your body flush out the fat cells.
Because it is a cumulative process done over time, the best approach is to have a series of weekly treatments over the course of a month of two. For best results we recommend continuing with a good exercise routine and a healthy diet.
Are there side effects or risks involved?
Outside of suddenly getting more compliments for how good you look, there are no reported side effects to having a MedContour treatment. Some may feel a slight warming sensation during treatment, one that feels similar to having a hot stone treatment at a spa. Some slight redness may be seen on the treated area for a few hours after the procedure, but this will fade quickly. If it is uncomfortable you can apply a cool cloth or ice pack to it for the first few hours.
Continuing to exercise regularly and eating a healthy diet are an important part of this treatment plan. If you are also reducing calorie intake, the liquified fatty acids make a very good energy source and are consumed by the body, rather than redistributed. Many will want to complement the treatment with either hair removal or hand rejuvenation as part of the overall body improvement plan.
